Project Objective
To improve compliance of local authorities with their environmental responsibilities.
In this project GCBR seeks to influence local municipalities to share its vision of increasing socio-ecological resilience and sustainability. Through proactive engagement with all 10 local authorities (municipalities) in the GCBR domain, the project aims to ensure that GCBR‘s objectives are incorporated and spatially represented in each local authority’s development plan.
Project Implementation
The project manager, who serves as the GCBR-municipal liaison officer, establishes and maintains relationships with all municipalities in the GCBR domain (focusing on local municipalities). Through these relationships the project manager keeps the communication between the GCBR and its authorities open, and keeps the parties on both sides up to date with relevant developments.
The Local Authorities project manager also endeavours to ensure that relevant socio-ecological projects and compliance reports are listed in municipal Integrated Development Plans (IDPs) and that once listed, these projects and reports are prioritised for funding.
