Celebrating World Bee Day with Learners from Panorama Primary School

Jun 12, 2024 | General News

To celebrate World Bee Day, the Gouritz Cluster Biosphere Reserve (GCBR) dedicated their time to spreading the buzz about bees among learners from Panorama Primary. It was an event filled with curiosity, learning, and fun where the wonders of bees and the magic of honey were brought to life.

Honey Demonstrations by Janine Howard and Katrien Dillman

Janine Howard, a beekeeper and honey enthusiast, illustrated the fascinating process of how honey is made. Starting from the role of bees in pollination to the methods by which they convert nectar into honey. Janine’s demonstration was informative and engaging. She even brought a transparent beehive model and samples of raw honeycomb to give the kids a closer look at bee life.

Katrien Dillman expanded on the importance of bees in our ecosystem. She explained how bees are vital pollinators, crucial for the growth of many plants, including food crops. Katrien also highlighted the challenges bees face, such as habitat loss and pesticide exposure, and stressed the importance of conservation efforts to protect these essential pollinators.

The learners received cool bee-themed games and goodies as a thank-you for participating. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the teachers of Panorama Primary for their assistance in making the event a success.
