The Gouritz Cluster Biosphere Reserve (GCBR) is a 3.2-million-hectare area that has been designated by UNESCO as a place of megadiversity. As an action orientated non-profit company, the GCBR is driven to protect, restore and effectively manage the ecosystems within its domain. This is a wonderful opportunity for x2 equity candidates to join a small team of passionate individuals to undertake an exciting internship programme that will empower them with critical skills sets within the field of environmental conservation.
JOB DETAILS
Job title: Interns x2
Location: GCBR Office – Riversdale, Western Cape
Employment type: Full-time
Duration: Fixed term contract, effective 1 July 2024 – 31 December 2025
Remuneration: R8 000 per month
Purpose of position: Enables workplace-based learning for local school leavers through meaningful on-the-job training and opportunities to undertake accredited learning and development interventions.
Qualifications: Grade 12 and basic computer literacy is essential.
Languages: English and Afrikaans
Other requirements: Candidates must be unemployed South African citizens between the ages of 18 – 25 years.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and reside in Riversdale or surrounding areas.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Participate in both office-based and fieldwork activities related to project planning, implementation and reporting.
- Spend time in field, gathering data and monitoring the local flora.
- Support and participate in environmental education outreach initiatives.
- Provide assistance and support to experts and researchers in field.
- Support project managers in the planning and coordination of various fundraising activities, environmental awareness campaigns and outreach initiatives.
- Assist in creating engaging content and communication materials related to project activities for various social media platforms and newsletters.
- Provide administrative support to GCBR staff.
- Assist in maintaining a centralised database for project files, documents and records, ensuring they are easily accessible and organised for efficient retrieval.
- Support project managers in the preparation of visually engaging presentations and reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in workshops and other formal learning opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills over the course of the internship programme.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must demonstrate a genuine interest in and passion for the outdoors, environmental education and youth development.
- Must live the GCBR values of integrity, innovation, collaboration and sustainability.
