Our friends at Grootvadersbosch Conservancy invited the Gouritz Cluster Biosphere Reserve to curate and host an art exhibition at their annual Silver Mountain Music Festival. The festival takes place in the picturesque mountains between Swellendam, Barrydale and Heidelberg from 15 – 18 June 2023. Themed “the rhythm of life”, the festival is a celebration of music, art and nature.
Under the direction of maestro Richard Cøck, some of South Africa’s most prominent musicians will make this a very special weekend. The line-up includes Magdalena de Vries (classical Marimbist), Bryan Clarke (Percussionist), Ashlin Grobbelaar (Cellist), Lungiswa Plaatjies and Ancient Voices, and many more.
There will also be a series of talks by leading Naturalists. Come learn about the delicate balance between agriculture and conservation; uncover the mystery of new and old fish, chameleon and snake species or discover the fascinating journey of the English Naturalist, William Burchell, who, in 1811, amassed an astonishing 63 000 specimens of plants, bulbs, insects, reptiles and mammals.
The curated art exhibition will be showcased at the Richard Cøck and Friends Shed Concert on the 17th of June 2023 at Strawberry Hill from 15h00 to 20h00. This collection is inspired by the “the rhythm of life” and pays homage to the various nature talks taking place at this year’s festival by featuring representations of chameleons, snakes and fish. We are very excited to be partnering with talented artists, including Louise Kluyts, Ferdo Voigt, Niki Saunders, Nadine Hansen, Nakita Joubert and Merryn Carver. A portion of all art sales will be donated to support the Grootvadersbosch Conservancy and the Empower Drumming Academy.
This festival has also become synonymous with amazing wine and culinary delights. Wine and spirits from the region will be showcased with wine tasting from Olivedale Private Vineyards, Sijnn Wines and Joubert-Tradauw Private Cellar. There will also be brandy tasting from Joseph Barry Distillery, to be enjoyed with a tour of the amazing Barrydale Hand Weavers.
