World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June and encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment. The theme for 2023 is “solution to plastic pollution”. To commemorate this day our Administration Manager, Marinda Van As, and two of our Groen Sebenza Interns, Lee-Ann Pretorius and Leila Moosajee, spent time engaging with some of the awesome grade 1 – 5 learners from Grace Prep in Still Bay.
During discussions with the students, our team was really impressed with the students’ knowledge and understanding of various environmental matters, ranging from biodiversity and the importance of plants to carbon and climate change. Engaging conversation was had about why plastic is making the earth “sad” and the kids got their creative juices flowing with our upcycled craft project where they transformed plastic bottles into cheerful planters.
