On 23 March, GCBR members Marinda, Purnille, and Erin spent a day at Zebra Kiddies Crèche in celebration of World Planting Day. This day was a joyful and meaningful experience for both the team and the children.
The group worked together to plant nine trees and twenty-one succulent plants around the crèche. Their goal was to help create a greener, more vibrant space where the children can learn, play, and grow. The addition of these plants will beautify the environment and contribute to cleaner air and a healthier surrounding for everyone.
The visit wasn’t just about planting; it was also about learning and connection. Around twenty children took part in the day’s activities. Before getting started, the team shared a short and easy-to-understand talk about the importance of trees and plants. They explained the role of plants in the environment, why they are important for people and animals, and how even small actions, like the planting on this day, can make a positive difference.
After the talk, the children were invited to join in, and they couldn’t have been more excited. With eager hands, they helped plant the trees and succulents. The activity quickly turned into a fun and interactive experience, filled with laughter and curiosity.
What stood out the most was just how much the children enjoyed themselves. Some of them loved the planting so much that they didn’t want to stop. Their enthusiasm and happiness were clear, and it was heartwarming to see their genuine excitement about caring for plants and being part of something positive.
By the end of the day, something even more important than adding new plants took place, an early appreciation for nature. It was a rewarding experience for everyone involved and a wonderful way to celebrate World Planting Day.
