The Gouritz Cluster Biosphere Reserve (GCBR) is a 3.2-million-hectare area that has been designated by UNESCO as a place of megadiversity. As an action orientated non-profit company, the GCBR is driven to protect, restore and effectively manage the ecosystems within its domain. This is a wonderful opportunity for an equity candidate to join a small team of passionate individuals to support our activities and initiatives through strategic engagements with local and international partners.

JOB DETAILS

Job title:                                Fundraising Associate

Location:                              GCBR Office – Riversdale, Western Cape

Employment type:             Full-time

Duration:                              Fixed term contract, effective 1 July 2024 – 31 December 2025

Remuneration:                    R25 000  per month

Reports to:                           Sustainability Manager

Purpose of position:          Identify and secure new fundraising opportunities and collaborative projects that align with the organisation’s objectives.

Qualifications:                    Relevant diploma or degree in one or more of the following fields is advantageous: communications, public relations, business and marketing.

Languages:                         English (fluent) and Afrikaans

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Develop and execute appropriate strategies to identify new fundraising opportunities that align with the GCBR’s mission, vision and long-term goals.
  • Foster partnerships with government agencies, corporate entities, and local and international donors to advance the impact of the GCBR’s work in conservation.
  • Explore and pursue avenues for CSI funding from local companies to support the diversification of donor revenue streams.
  • Craft fundraising and grant proposals that effectively articulate the GCBR’s mission, vision and objectives.
  • Conduct detailed research to identify prospective funders across diverse sectors.
  • Develop and implement fundraising campaigns designed to engage specific donor segments and achieve fundraising objectives.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute various fundraising events to generate support and raise awareness for biodiversity conservation.
  • Establish a centralised database to track grant deadlines, requirements and deliverables.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in fundraising and stakeholder management.
  • Prior experience in the development of grant funding proposals is highly desirable.
  • Skilled proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must demonstrate a genuine passion for people, environmental conservation and community well-being.
  • Must live the GCBR values of integrity, innovation, collaboration and sustainability.
